Book Fair 2016

Everyone in the school visited the ‘Celtic Travelling Books’ in the school halla. The girls had the chance to browse through the books before choosing and buying their favourite one.

Thanks to Ms Corbett, Ms Keane and Ms Ní Cheallaigh for all their hard work organising the book fair, ordering our books and delivering our books!! Thanks also to the parents who supported this Book Fair as the school can now avail of some free books for each class library!!

MHOC’s First Step to Proclamation Day, 15th March 2016

On September 25th 2015, Sergeant Wayne Eastwood and Lieutenant Deirdre Fahy visited Mary Help of Christians GNS to present our school with the National Flag and a copy of the 1916 Proclamation.

This is an initiative run by Óglaigh na hÉireann to celebrate Ireland’s Centenary Programme to commemorate the 1916 Rising.

Sergeant Wayne Eastwood gave us a short talk on the care and custody of the National Flag. Every school in Ireland will receive the National Flag in preparation for Proclamation Day on the 15th March 2016. On this day, every school in the country will raise their flag at midday.

Lieutenant Deirdre Fahy read the 1916 Proclamation to us. 2016 is the Centenary of the 1916 Proclamation and Lieutenant Fahy asked us to create our own Proclamation for the next 100 years. What do you think should be included in this Proclamation?

The school yard was full of fun and excitement on Tuesday, June 16th, for Junior Sports Day. There was colourful bunting hanging from the Prefabs and the 6th class girls had a circuit of 8 activities ready for us to complete.

First Class- Let’s go on a minibeast adventure!

We went on a minibeast adventure! A minibeast is small animal or ‘creepy crawly’. We learnt lots about minibeasts in the classroom and then we went out together to find them. We collected them in jars. The jars had a magnifying glass lid so that we could see the minibeasts up close. We found lots of worms and woodlouse under the flowerpots. We also collected snails, ants and even a spider! Then we took them all back to the classroom to get a better look. Don’t worry, we put them straight back in the garden afterwards! It was so much fun!

1st Class Hunt for Signs of Spring!

We were delighted that the sun shone during our walk to the Bogies. We were searching for signs of spring. We found loads of evidence that spring has sprung! We saw cherry blossom trees in bloom; crocuses and daffodils growing and we found branches with leaf buds on them. Spring is everywhere.

When we finished our scavenger hunt we went to the playground. We had great fun climbing, swinging and spinning. When we were tired we took a break to eat our lunch. We sketched the playground. We took a short cut back to school. It was a great trip.
