We have been learning all about 2D and 3D shapes in Junior Infants. We have played lots of shape games and learned songs about shape. Here is a link to our favourite shape song! We used our cutting and sticking skills to create shape pictures! Have a look at our creations below!
We have started the Daily Five in our class. The Daily Five is a station teaching approach for literacy. There is more information available here. We participate in Daily Five three days a week and do activities at different stations; Work on Words, Work on Writing, Listening to Reading, Read to Friend, Read to Self. We are really enjoying the Daily Five and our literacy skills have improved greatly! Have a look at our pictures below to see the Daily Five in action!
During March and April we learned about Easter. We discussed the Easter story and what happens in nature at Spring time. We then created pinch pots from clay and sculpted them into Easter Nests. We painted the nests when the clay had dried and added straw, eggs and chicks! Have a look at the process and finished pieces below.
We had our Easter Raffle in the hall and Room 1 were very lucky with three winners! Congratulations!
We have been reading the story ‘The Rainbow Fish’ by Marcus Pfister. The story is all about friendship. We created our own Rainbow Sea Creatures using fabric and fibre after being inspired by the book. The story also inspired us to create a friendship chain and a book about why we are all such good friends. All of our creations are currently on display outside Room 1.
Active School Week began this Monday, the 27th of April. We had a dance class which was great fun! We also used the parachute for the first time, it was very windy but we really enjoyed it! Here we are learning our dance which we will perform with the whole school on Wednesday in the yard.
We are looking forward to the rest of Active School Week and our upcoming school tour and a visit from our local Gardaí!
